Qatar Players Association hosted its first annual ceremony at the Cultural Village – Katara, with presence of the H.E. Salah Bin Ghanim Al-Ali, the Minister of Culture & Sports, H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmed Al-Thani, Qatar Football Association President. The ceremony was targeting former players who served the national teams and their clubs with the presence of the current football players.
The ceremony focused on a small group of former players who spent their entire football career defending the national team and clubs’ colors. The award included monetary award and a trophy, which is designed by Ms. Moza Al-Noaimi, an employee at Qatar Stars League. The trophy designed was derived from Qatar Players Association logo representing the infinity symbol.
Mr. Salman Al-Ansari, Qatar Players Association, stated that such ceremony aims to recognize those who served in the football sector and a clear message to the current players to motivate them in addition to the younger generations. Mr. Al-Ansari added that Qatar Players Association main objective is to represent and defend the players and ensure a smooth transition from their football career to other jobs within or out of the sector. He concluded his statement by thanking all of those who attended and the sponser, Qatar Football Association, Players Rewards Fund (Thuker), Aldawri & Alkass Channels and Seashore Group.
The celebrated players:
The late Mr. Ahmed Suliman: he represented Qatar national team and played for Qatar Sports Club in the eighties and early nights. He spent more than twenty years playing for Qatar Sports Club and won Shaikh Jassim Cup three times.
Mahmoud Sofi: he represented Qatar national team and won the Gulf Cup in 1992 and he played for Al Gharafa Sports Club and won the league twice, the Emir Cup four times and the Heir Apparent Cup once with Al Saad Sports Club.
Jumma Salem: he represented Qatar national team and won the Gulf Cup in 1992 and he played for Al Wakrah Sports Club and won the league once and the Heir Apparent Cup once.
Zamel Al-Kuwari: he represented Qatar national team and won the Gulf Cup in 1992 and he played for Al Rayyan Sports Club and won the league once, the Emir Cup once with Al Rayyan Sports Club and Another with Al Saad Sports Club, the Heir Apparent Cup once and Bahrain’s Heir Apparent Cup once.
Abdulnaser Al-Obaidly: he represented Qatar national team and played for Al Saad Sports Club where he won the league once, the Emir Cup four times, the Heir Apparent Cup once and he won the Clubs Gulf cup and the Afroasian Championship.
Wesam Rezq: he represented Qatar national team and won the Gulf Cup in twice and the Asian Games Gold and he played for Al Saad Sports Club and won the league three times, the Emir Cup twice and the Heir Apparent Cup three times, the AFC Champions League, the bronze medal at the FIFA Clubs World and won the league once and the Heir Apparent Cup once with Qatar Sports Club. In addition, he won Qatar Cup with El Jaish twice.
Ibrahim Al-Ghanim: he represented Qatar national team and won the Gulf Cup once and the Asian Games Gold and he played for Al Gharafa Sports Club and won the league once, the Emir Cup once and the Heir Apparent Cup twice, the AFC Champions League and QNB Cup once.
